It started with her mad dash to be the first to have her feet washed, now this. Tonight was the Tenebrae service. First let me say, she read a scripture in the service and did so beautifully! She did a great job and she sat still for nearly an hour in front of probably about 250 people. It was a great service with great music. At the end the sanctuary is completely dark except for the Christ candle. Then a very moving song about the crucifixion is sung while there are sound effects of the nails and the stone of the tomb. At that point in the song there is a thunderstorm sound and we have a light that appears to be lightening and in that lightening you see Jesus on the cross crying out in pain. It is really a man named Mike Stanislawski who does it every year. It happens very fast and it is in the broken light of the lightening.
After the service Gracie said, "Where did we get that mechanical Jesus?" I asked what she meant and she said, "the rubber Jesus that was on the cross, where did we get that?" She couldn't believe it was a real man and argued with me. She can't wait for Sunday to see who Mike Stanislawski is because she can't remember who he is.
