Case in point

Well listen to this Meanwhile the Melvin's story - I promise you I don't think anyone else had a day like this!
I didn't have the blog set up a few months ago, or this story would have surely made a great post. Many of you will remember when Grant got the popcorn kernel stuck up his nose. I didn't believe him when he said, he had a 'thing' up his nose. Then when he showed me the kernels in the bowl and said it was on of those things. Then when Aimee looked up his nose and saw it, I started to get worried. Sure enough - popcorn up the nose. Well Chad took him to the Acute Care facility and they easily removed it. Chad made a big deal that day about having to take him there rather than to his doctor because we could turn it in on our Aflac accident policy. I have witnesses to those comments (you'll see why I need them later). All of this took place at where else but the church with half the congregation laughing their head's off (actually it was on a Monday and it was just the staff laughing).
A few weeks after the popcorn deal, I sliced my finger open on a can of chicken and had to have stitches. Cha-ching with that good ol' accident policy again!
Then you'll remember a few weeks ago on my way home from visiting Aunt Stephanie in Atlanta, I hit a deer at 1 am. I have been driving the car with DEER HAIR poking out of the bumper for 2 weeks because I am putting off the repair so that we can take the rental car on our road trip to Oklahoma next week (genius, I know).
Fast forward to today. Grant and I went to the bank and then I thought I'd be ultra productive and finally file the Aflac claim for the popcorn kernel incident and the stitches on my finger. Chad had been telling me he'd do it and I have finally given up on that. So I went to the place where they did the kernel extraction to get a copy of the bill (because of course it was eaten by Chad's glove box). I zipped in, got the bill and we were back in the car in 2 minutes. I was quite proud that I was finally going to have it done. We were on our way to buy supplies for the preschool tomorrow - a whole 23 hours in advance! That is a productive day! UNTIL...WHAM-O...I SMACKED INTO THE CAR BESIDE ME WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE...CRUNCH! I couldn't believe it. I prayed it wasn't bad, but it sounded horrible. Sure enough the other side of my bumper was destroyed worse than the deer damage. The other car, a silver Camry, was just scratched. There were some drug reps there that saw the whole thing and were laughing and messing with me when I got out of the car to look.
Back into the clinic we went. I asked everyone in the waiting room, no one had a Camry. Don't you know they were glad they didn't! So the nurse was asking patients in the rooms. No one. So she was thinking maybe someone left their car when they went to the hospital from there. I was feeling horrible thinking that some poor person was in the hospital, sick and miserable and I crunch their car.
I was sitting down to write my note and pulling out my insurance card (which is the old one I found in the bottom of my glove box because the new one is on my desk because I already have one claim open for the deer!). I heard a man say, "no, I didn't hit it, SHE DID!" and he pointed at me. I looked up and it as Pat Myhand, a friend of mine.
I work with Pat's husband Glenn at the church. In fact he was the one that called us the night of the tornado when we were dancing in the kitchen.
We went back to the church and called all the insurance companies and I took my ribbing from everyone in the office.
Then to call Chad. He said (after I was mean to him because he didn't even ask if we were ok), "you have to admit, I have reason to be a little numb after all the wrecks you have had!"
I reminded him of the time he backed out of the garage directly into Jeromey and Jaimie's car in our driveway. He shut up.
So now my car is crunched all the way across the front and still has deer hair poking out!
Tell me that happens to normal people?!?!
Oh wait, I forgot the best part. So after everything I thought, 'I am still going to get that $150 from Aflac out of this day!' Guess who doesn't even have a darn accident policy?!?! Chad Melvin that's who! I called Aflac and spent an hour on hold and on the phone researching. Yep, canceled at my request in 2006. So all that for NOTHING!
