The babe is 5. He had a great day yesterday on his birthday. He opened one of his presents (they were all Star Wars action figures) before school. Then he took cookies on a stick he'd made for his class. After school Chad was able to sneak away and take them to Callaway to ride bikes. Last night, Gracie had a game and he played at the ball field. It was sweet. His buddy Sloan brought his 2 wheeler to the game - just like Grant's but his has training wheels. He said, "I am five and need 2 wheeler lessons." So that's the plan!
On Friday, we met the Baxters at Burger King for lunch. Grant B let him borrow one of his droid action figures to play with. Well, we lost his leg. Then he got 2 more for his birthday. Chad told him yesterday that he had to give one to Grant if he didn't find the leg. I didn't mention it again yesterday, but tonight when we were getting ready for church, we looked all over for the leg. We couldn't find it. He tearfully accepted that he'd give Grant the one he got for his birthday that was like his. Leaving the one with the red vest for (obviously, he's special!). Well, on the way, he lost that one's head. Whose idea was it to make all these removable parts!?! So, now Mr. Red Vest was going to have to go. Oh my! He was not happy. What a lesson though. He really got it and I don't think he'll borrow anything ever again! We took it to Grant's Daddy's office to get it over with. Shannon, being the genius that he is, said, "duh, Mel, take the head off the leg-less one and he'll be complete." Oh! I didn't have the "spare parts droid" with me. So I left there with the droid in my pocket after Grant gave it to Shannon, without him knowing. He'll be pleased in the morning when I tell him I constructed the new one for Grant B and he gets to keep his special "red vest" friend. But it was a valuable lesson. Although it was very traumatic!
Five year olds have alot of responsibility. They have to sleep in their own beds - no matter what. (Yes, that is KILLING me!) They don't whine - only 2 year olds do that, so he's really behind here. They know their letters and numbers. And now, they ride 2 wheelers! Such responsibility.
His party is Friday at Monkey Joe's. He, of course, is very excited.
Tomorrow is his monthly treatment. I am a touch nervous because he hasn't had one in 4 weeks and I worry he'll be sick for his party. He was sick for the monthly treatments much more than the weekly. I hope it was just because they were early in the process, not that they were monthly. I am also a little worried about the complaints he had last week. The child cannot complain of any pain without me being paranoid. He said several times last week that his head hurt. Then one day he cried a good bit. That day he said, "my blood and my bones just hurt!" I think he was enjoying the attention of Spring Break more so than in pain. I hope.
