Casey is a Goofball

I never want to go to a visitation again after last night! Richard didn't want to have a traditional (depressing) visitation at the funeral home for the family. So we had a great party. It was respectful of the pain we are all feeling while still celebrating the wonderful life Lori had. The funeral was today and was also great. Lori's brother said it best when he said that we all are upset that her life ended too soon and that she didn't get to live her full life - but she did. She chose in so many ways to live her life to the fullest and to make her 43 years full of 80+ years of life.
Last night and today there was a station for everyone to write notes to the family and leave them in their boxes. Grant wanted to write a card today. So he went with Donna to write his note. Donna, being the wonderful patient teacher that she is, helped him to write the note. Come to find out it wasn't for anyone in the Peters family. It was for Casey Buresh. He is so enamored with the Buresh boys. And they are wonderful, but both Grant and Gracie think they are the greatest - to the point of harassment. So he drew a picture and asked Donna to help him write Casey's name and then, "Casey is a goofball." He couldn't wait to get to "Good Night Supper" (Wednesday night supper) to give it to Casey. He was so excited to give it to him. My best friend in the world is named Casi too. She is a girl and Grant thinks that is just wrong. Casey is a boy and that not only that, he's a goofball!
Gracie was such a sweet girl today. She prayed this morning for her friend that is having a hard time at school, then she wrote him a note reminding him that she loved him and that Jesus loved him. They have been special friends since they were 2 and it really touches my heart to see her hurt when he hurts. Then she chose to come to the funeral with me (and even wore a dress to school so that she'd be appropriately dressed when it was time for the funeral). She sat so nicely and listened to every word. I was very proud of her and I was also very moved for her to hear the wonderful witness of Lori's life. At one point during the singing she asked, "why do you keep pushing on my head and why are you crying?" I didn't realize I was pushing on her head. She was standing in front of me. But I did have my hand on her head and was praying that she would hear every word and that she would grow to love God as much as Tabitha and Jeff do and also that she'd love her mom as much as they love theirs. Is that selfish?!?
One more thing that is just goofy. I am such a ditz that last night I walked out of the church and forgot to lock the library door after I had said I would. I went to bed late after talking on the phone late. I laid awake thinking of the phone conversations I'd had with Allison and then my sister. And then at about 1 am it hit me like a ton of bricks that I didn't lock the door. I thought of all the horrible scenarios that could happen (thanks Wiley for giving me all those scary thoughts). Then I thought, I'll just pray and it will be ok. Well, 2:30 rolled around and I was still awake...so I got up. I woke up Chad and went to the church to lock the door. We live about 20 minutes away, so it was a fun little drive. Then I couldn't sleep because I was wide awake from the drive! So I am REALLY tired and going to bed now!
I'd really like to say this is the first time I had driven to the church in the middle of the night, but it isn't. I really wish we'd get a sniper and then I wouldn't have to worry when I forget to check or lock a door!
