My what appears to be ANNUAL post

I've had the thought recently that I needed to remember certain moments. At the time, I've thought, "of course I won't forget this." But in the last few days I've been thinking about blogging all those moments and sadly I can only remember a few. I must do better because these days are passing too quickly.
I couldn't help but literally gasp when I opened the blog tonight to add this post and saw the post from last year's first line. Last week we visited Ben Lippen school and the kids loved it. Both of them have asked about Christian school in the last few months, so last Monday we went for a tour. I haven't say a word to either of them in suggestion, if anything we have been pointing out the possible negatives of changing schools to make sure they consider all of the situation. At this point, we are still considering and praying about the option. It would be a HUGE financial commitment, which I am not sure they fully comprehend the sacrifices we all would have to make (including the kids - that' the part I don't think they get). At this point I'd say Grant is 200% in favor of going to Ben Lippen and Gracie is about 125%. Which is about right. She is always going to be more cautious then he is, just in her nature. Our job is to discern from them, from our prayers, and the reality of the situation what will be best for them both long term. No pressure or anything.
Back to those things I wanted to document before I forgot about them.... That Gracie girl, she's a good one. So we are finally feeling settled at a church. After realizing that we are just not Baptists no matter how much we try or how great the programs are at some really great churches we have visited, we are back at the first church we visited upon moving - Chapin United Methodist. I think the timing was just off when we first moved and, as great as the church was/is, it wasn't HOME and that made it seem like it didn't fit. Over this time, we have realized, no church will fit exactly what we left. The life that we had at St. Mark was the amazing family we had there, the great worship,  but alot of the "irreplaceable" aspect was a season in our lives (not to mention the super connectedness of working at the church). Going back to Chapin UMC after a couple years felt very similar to coming back to our home at St. Mark. We all knew that we were where we need to be. Not long after this, Gracie joined the Confirmation class. She should have done Confirmation the year we moved, 6th grade. But as a 9th grader, she was so brave to join the group to explore her faith and confirm the hope we had for her at her baptism. We were so proud of her and thankful that her grandparents could all join us at her Confirmation where she proudly stood and declared that she has chosen for herself to joyfully follow Christ. (I do believe that this process, her small group and her commitment have contributed to her request to go to the Christian school...)

If you've read my updates lately (or ever), you know I am good at randomness. It's a gift :) So the other night we were at dinner with the kids and Grant had a friend  joining us. Somehow the topic of brushing teeth came up. And Grant said, in all seriousness (with a tone like, "my parents are so lame"), "Dude, they (us) brush their teeth EVERYDAY!" As if that were not anywhere close to normal and we were freaks.

This picture is from a random Saturday where Grant was able to go to his favorite store - the Army Navy Supply store. Which from what I understand (yes, I've avoided this blessed shopping experience) is like a pawn shop. But they have MRE's. He spent his own money and purchased an MRE He sat on the porch with Chad and gobbled it up. He had to eat it outside since it required fire to heat the entrĂ©e. He LOVED it. I don't mean that he choked it down, I mean the boy LOVED it! He went on and on about how great it was, much like his Gramps does after he cooks a meal! After his delicious meal he came inside for me to help him with the coffee. The warmer thing wasn't working anymore and he needed hot water. He was very excited to try his instant coffee. The entire time I was heating his water and talking to him he kept calling me "Dollface." For whatever reason in his cooky little mind, I was some sort of WW2 pinup girl heating his water!
"Hey Dollface how about you heat me up some water form my cup of Joe?"
"Why thank you Dolface."
"So Dollface, do you drink coffee?"
I made him try the coffee black first before adding the cream and sugar. He obviously liked the sweet version better, Dollface.

Oh yeah,  I didn't mention at little fun tidbit...Gracie has gallbladder issues. She has been dealing with stomach problems for at least a year. She had an ultrasound that showed she has "gallbladder sludge." The good ol'  Dr. Internet implied the only way to fix the "sludge" was to have her gallbladder removed. So I have been planning for this when the GI dr. (that we were able to get in with rather quickly thanks to her Dad calling some friends) said that he didn't think it was her gallbladder, but rather a milk allergy. So for the last 2 weeks we have been trying to get her to comply with the instructions to not only cut all milk  from her diet, but to also log her diet. This has proven be impossible. She doesn't think to log every bite and she will happily have  a slice of pizza or some queso while fully accepting it will more than likely make her  sick for hours following. I'm not sure that the milk allergy is the right track, even when she doesn't cheat . We spent all day Friday in the ER and honestly hadn't been cheating for days.
